Britney Spears Biography Filmography Discography

Britney Spears

Britney Jean Spears was born on the 2nd of December 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana. As a young girl growing up, she always knew she wanted to pursue a musical career and took her talents to her local church, where she performed "What Child Is This," and even on national television, with her appearance as a Star Search contestant. At the age of 8, Britney auditioned for the popular children's variety show, Mickey Mouse Club, but was refused because of her young age. Luckily for Britney, one of the show's producers saw the young singer's talent, and helped her find an agent in New York City.
Britney spent the next three summers in New York, where she studied at the famous Off-Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School. To add to the formation of a future international star, Britney appeared in commercials and Off-Broadway shows, one of which showcased Britney as an innocent 10-year-old who is really an evil bad girl.

Three years after her first Mickey Mouse Club rejection, Britney finally landed a spot as a "Mouseketeer" at the age of 11. Joining a cast of talented teens on the show, Britney showed off her acting, dancing and singing talents on the show that also spawned the careers of fellow beauties Keri Russell and Christina Aguilera. After 2 years of living in Orlando with her family while doing the show, Britney moved back home to Kentwood after the show was cancelled, and returned to high school.
Her one normal year as a fourteen-year-old high school student would be the last bit of normalcy in Britney's life. With a dream of pursuing a career as a singer and a desire to leave her small hometown, Britney set off to New York City yet again, this time destined to sign with a major record label. Britney finally signed with Jive Records, after an executive was fully impressed with the talent he heard on the demo tape. Working with Eric Foster White, a producer who had previously worked with artists such as Boyzone and Whitney Houston, Britney's debut album was finally ready for its January 12, 1999 release date.

Baby, One More Time spawned such hits as "Crazy," "Sometimes" and of course the title track, the infectious "Baby, One More Time." The album held the number one spot on the Billboard charts, was certified RIAA 12 x platinum (it has gone on to sell more than 20 million copies), and won Britney awards such as the 1999 MTV Europe Awards for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist and Best Breakthrough Artist. Between recording her second album, Britney co-wrote a book with mom Lynne Spears, entitled Heart to Heart, and went on an extensive worldwide tour.
A huge Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Madonna fan, Britney has been scrutinized by the media with reports of a breast augmentation, and a love affair with England's most eligible bachelor, Prince William. With the The Edge hype nowhere near over, she returned to the music scene in 2000 with her follow-up album, entitled Oops!... I Did It Again. With a hit video accompanying the hit title track (in which Ms. Spears has definitely done it again, this time in a red leather catsuit), a second worldwide tour in support of her album, and millions of fans, Britney has definitely accomplished what few artists ever accomplish, at the mere age of 18.

The 8 times platinum Oops!... I Did It Again spawned number 1 singles like "Lucky," "Stronger" (in which she performs a lap dance to a chair), and "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know." 2001 was a banner year for the popster, as she co-hosted the American Music Awards with L.L. Cool J.; performed at the Rock In Rio festival (where audiences got a real glimpse of what she sounds like offstage -- and we don't mean her singing voice); performed with Aerosmith, N Sync, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige at the Super Bowl; appeared on a spoken-word CD of the Pope's prayers; and signed a multimillion-dollar endorsement with Pepsi. While she dances with factory workers in a warehouse, impressing even Viagra-enhanced Bob Dole and his dog, Christina Aguilera stars in a Coca-Cola commercial, fueling more than just a pop war.

The mystery of her sudden physical maturity is still unsolved, but there are two rumors we can dispel: Britney isn't cuddling up to Prince William, but rather a prince of pop, *N Sync singer Justin Timberlake. Although she preaches abstinence until marriage, it's hard to believe that Britney and Justin do no more than cuddle. And another rumor that is certainly not true is the one claiming that Britney and Justin were killed in a car crash in Los Angeles; it was just a prank courtesy of two radio personalities.
Spears' self-titled third album was a laboured attempt to cultivate a more mature approach, with the singer also going a long way towards shedding her puritanical image. Although its initial sales were not as strong as her previous two albums, Britney shot straight to the top of the US album chart on its release in November 2001 for a brief stay. Her fourth album saw Spears moving further away from teen pop, disposing of the services of Max Martin and cultivating a sexually charged adult image at odds with the flirtatious schoolgirl of her earlier albums.

The album, released in November 2003, included a collaboration with Madonna on "Me Against The Music" (the two singers had raised some eyebrows by snogging on stage at the MTV Video Music awards in August). Despite mixed reviews, In The Zone debuted at the top of the US charts. In truth, "Me Against The Music" is hardly about declaring war against grooves. "Actually, it's about the intensity that people approach music with," Britney shares. "It's about getting totally lost in the music and pushing yourself to the edge in every way you can imagine. I love thoroughly immersing myself in music, and I wanted to capture that intensity in a song."
Britney's musical intensity and her evolution from a teen renegade into a provocative young woman are undeniable throughout "In The Zone," her fourth Jive Records collection. First and foremost, the project shows her flexing notably strong and mature songwriting muscles. She co-wrote 7 of the project's 12 sterling new compositions, collaborating with such heavy hitters as Red Zone ("Me Against The Music," "The Hook Up"), The Matrix ("Shadow"), Moby ("Early Mornin'"), and Cathy Dennis ("Toxic," "Showdown"). Also contributing hit worthy material to the album is R. Kelly ("Outrageous"), Ying-Yang Twins on "(I Got That) Boom Boom."

During the latter half of 2004, Spears announced she would be taking another career break in order to start a family. Immediately after her marriage to Federline, she had told People that "I want to be a young mom. Next year, at 23, I'm so there". Although she made few public appearances, the "Britney Spears industry" continued to run itself. In September 2004, she released her first fragrance, "Curious" (a floral scent with vanilla and musk), for which she earned a reported $12 million USD. The fragrance had the biggest debut in sales in history from Elizabeth Arden, breaking the record for first-week gross for a perfume; after one year of sales, the product has netted more than $100 million USD.[4] It ended up as the number one fragrance of 2004 in department stores, and in 2005 it was honored by the Fragrance Foundation as Best Women's Fragrance. Following the success of "Curious", Spears released her next Elizabeth Arden fragrance, "Fantasy" (a fruity scent with flowers and cupcake), in September 2005 which also became a top-selling perfume [5] during the holiday season of 2005.
Spears' first hits collection, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative, was released in late 2004. The album debuted at number four on the U.S. charts (becoming Spears' first album to not debut at number one domestically), selling over 255,000 copies in its first week of release. In addition to her biggest hits, it featured three new songs: "My Prerogative" (a cover of the Bobby Brown song), "Do Somethin'" and "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)". "My Prerogative" and "Do Somethin'" were released as singles to moderate success, and the album has sold over a million copies in the U.S. to-date.
During the spring of 2005, Spears' reality show with husband Kevin Federline, Britney and Kevin: Chaotic, premiered on UPN in the U.S. The series included five episodes, and both Spears and Federline were credited as executive producers. Chaotic was panned by most critics, and ratings were not as high as expected. Spears announced her pregnancy via her official website in April 2005. Despite her eagerness to have a baby, she admitted to ELLE magazine that, "I have a feeling I'm going to have an operation. I don't know why. But I hope so. I don't want to go through the pain". On September 14, 2005, 6lb. 11oz. baby boy Sean Preston Federline was born in the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California by an elective caesarean section.
Spears released a remix album entitled B in the Mix: The Remixes in late 2005. In the U.S., it lacked promotion of any kind and debuted outside the top one hundred with less than 15,000 copies sold in its first week of release. As of January 2006 the album had sold 500,000 copies worldwide, and the single "And Then We Kiss" was released in Asia and became moderately popular.
In December 2005, Spears sued US Weekly for a story the magazine published in the column "HOTstuff" of their October 2005 publication. The column, with the headline "Brit & Kev: Secret Sex Tape? New parents have a new worry: racy footage from 2004." claimed that Spears and her husband had made a sex video and feared it would be distributed. Spears denies the existence of any such tape while the magazine claims to have a credible source and stands by its story.

Spears is believe to release her fifth studio album sometime in 2006, according to MTV.com. She is currently engaged with a pre-producted film of 2007, "In the Pink" together with Tim Allen, Cher and Bette Midler. The story is about a rich, misogynistic corporate executive (Tim Allen) who soon finds himself out of a job, and is forced to make a living out of selling Mary Kay cosmetics alongside a group of door-to-door saleswomen (Cher, Bette Midler, Britney Spears and Wanda Sykes). Things look up, however, when he develops a genuine understanding of the female psyche, and uses his knowledge to propel his business upwards.
